We are back from Columbus and had a wonderful Passover Seder with our family. I felt really lucky to have all three of my kids together for the holiday and seized the opportunity to take photos of them....

Cabo-Here We Come!
El Arco ("The Arch"), or Lands End, is a distinctive rock formation at the southern tip of Cabo San Lucas. This huge granite landmark has become Cabo's "logo". It is accessible via water taxi and
people often combine a tour of the arch with a visit to Lovers Beach, which faces two different
bodies of water-one is the tranquil Sea of Cortez, and the other is the Pacific Ocean with its large
swells and dangerous waves.

Original Greek Architecture
The Parthenon at the Acropolis of Athens is the most famous surviving building of Ancient Greece. Standing for nearly 2,500 years, built in 447-432 BC, the Parthenon is currently undergoing selective restoration and reconstruction. Taken in October of 2009, these pictures look just like I remembered from my old text books!

Greek Architecture
Many times when I travel to a new place, it ends up looking nothing like I pictured it to be. The Greek Isles, however, looked exactly as I imagined it. The contrast of the whitewashed buildings against the azure blue skies was nothing less than picturesque. A small fishing village in Mykonos was home to this small iconic looking Greek church. The second picture is a cluster of homes built into the hillside-note the cubic homes, flat roofs, and spare lines-all indicative of the traditional cycladic style of architecture in this area.

Elephant Seals
The elephant seal rookery at Piedras Blancas, California is located on the scenic Coastal Highway near Big Sur. It was an unexpected treat on our drive down the coast in May of 2006.

NYC Skyline
For some reason, while en route to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, I was compelled to shoot the New York city skyline (as seen from New York Harbor) on an angle. I'm still not sure why I did it, but I like the result. (May, 2005).

Who needs an ear doctor?
There was a period of several hours (a couple weeks ago) where we considered adopting a third, very large dog. It didn't work out, and fortunately the dog found a great home, but I've been stalking pictures of our lab, Gimel, ever since. When we first got Dillon, he loved "cleaning Gimel's ears". Gimel was so tolerant....a gentle giant.

Turkish Women
While in Istanbul (October, 2009) I was fascinated by the traditional clothing of the Turkish women.
I took so many pictures on the streets and tried to be unobtrusive, but this one woman's eyes met the lens of my camera at the very moment I snapped the picture. Every time I look at this picture, I sense her disapproval. I also loved the contrast in the second picture between the conservatively dressed women and the very modern looking model in the window's advertisement.

Sunset at Maroon Bells
A picnic bench, wine and cheese, the dogs, amazing scenery, and a beautiful sunset all make for a beautiful evening in Aspen. It doesn't get much better than that... (July, 2009)

Balloon Festival
If you ever have the opportunity to go to a hot air balloon festival-go! Even though you have to wake up quite early in the morning and brave some chilly temperatures, it's worth it. The clear blue Colorado sky is the perfect canvas for the colorful balloons. Here are some shots from September, 2008.

Genuine Fake?
This picture was taken in October of 2009 in Kusadasi, Turkey in a small tourist area. At least they're honest??

Storm on the Mountain
Minutes after this pictures was taken, the storm gave way and we were forced into the Sundeck Restaurant on top of Aspen Mountain...it was great waiting out the storm up there with my boys until we could safely drive back down the mountain. (July, 2007)

Winter Approaches the Bells
Maroon Bells is picturesque year round. Last week, I posted a picture of the Bells in July, still covered with remnants of the previous winter's snow. This picture was shot at the beginning of November in 2005 as the Bells boast some fresh autumn snow and the beginnings of a promising season of the white stuff. Road access to Maroon Bells is restricted during the winter so you won't see any pictures of mine during the heart of the winter season.

Cody the Sightseer
There are three ways to head up Aspen Mountain. One is to hike (ha!), one is to drive, and the other is to take the Silver Queen Gondola. During the summer of 2005, Cody was the only dog with us in Aspen. Gimel was in Dayton, and we didn't have Dillon yet. Cody did everything and went everywhere with us, as most dogs do out there. This picture is classic Cody, propping himself up on the rail inside the gondola (it's enclosed!), taking in the sights around Aspen.
