Watching and Looking

I prefer to capture candid images of people looking at, watching, or near things of great importance as opposed to them posing...

Color vs. Black & White?

Another one of my personal photographic preferences is NOT to turn images to black and white or sepia as has become popular in the past several years.  I do believe it makes a significant artistic statement when used in the right context, but only when it is "called for" and enhances the shot.  These images I captured in Istanbul last year seemed more dramatic in sepia and black and white, adding to the urban feel of the streets....

From the Back...

Those of you who know my style of photography know that I'm a huge fan of shooting people from the back.  One of the first images I captured in Israel were these young men walking through Ben Gurion airport.   Throughout the trip, I had many more opportunities to do the same...

A "mistake" or "a thing of beauty"?

Perhaps the next time you initially see something as a "mistake",  you can choose to look at it as an opportunity to view things differently...

Cody-O-Lantern

I laugh out loud every time this picture appears on my digital photo frame.  As usual, because he trusts me so much, Cody cooperated when I put him in yet another precarious position by placing him in this carved pumpkin last Halloween for a photo shoot... (I apologize if I already blogged this picture....)

Happy Birthday Allie!

Mike and I drove to Bloomington last night to surprise Allie on her 19th birthday.  She was completely surprised, and her reaction was priceless.  We took her and some of her friends to dinner and had a great time...what a great group of girls.  Here are some shots from the evening...

Bird Rescue

There's something about all the tall windows in our home that attract suicidal birds to crash into them. Often, the birds fall, get right back up, and fly away.  Other times, they seem temporarily stunned and sit, almost as if paralyzed, only to fly away minutes later.

This snowy morning, a bird hit the window and then fell into our near frozen pond.  Having seen this, Mike went out and rescued the bird out of the pond and we placed it in an empty planter on a towel in an attempt to keep it warm until it hopefully flew away.  Our dogs became quite interested as we went outside to tend to the bird and here are some shots I captured.  Cody became instantly attached (actually obsessed) and Dillon simply went on with his business of playing ball with himself....

p.s...the bird is still recuperating, but now in a nearby tree, and cody is obsessively waiting by the door to go out and check on his new friend...

NYC Skyline

I captured these shots from the airplane as we were landing in NYC, en route to Israel.  I'm waiting for the right space to claim a large panoramic print of one of these images...

A Work in Progress

Mike and I just returned from Colorado checking on the new construction... Here are a couple shots of the work in progress taken from different angles.  What you see is the bottom floor...Mt. Daly (the big peak to the left in the bottom image) rises to 13300 feet at its highest point...

Home for the Holidays

By far, the best part of the holidays is having my three kids home, together.  Having adult children has been so much fun, and watching them together is even better...

A Dad and His Sons

My father-in-law Chuck turned 87 this weekend and he decided to throw himself one heck of a birthday bash.  This image of Chuck dancing with his four sons encircling him says it all...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving in our home means that Mike is in charge of deep frying five turkeys for 50 people.
The preparation starts the day before, and he absolutely loves it.  No one messes with Mike and his turkeys...

Motorcycle Mama

My Mom is in town visiting, and the unseasonably warm weather enticed her to hop on the back of the scooter with Mike...she had a ball!

hannah

I just returned from spending time with my 2 year old niece Hannah in Detroit.  Hannah invited me to her gymnastics class which was great fun.  Below is the best "donkey kick" in the class!  I also had the chance to jump on the trampoline with her, and her mom Ashley captured a shot of me (my butt) in mid air.....
